The Hexafarm is a new type of floating fish cage that leverages polyculture to increase fish health, product output, and overall efficiency. Polyculture is the practice of growing multiple types of seafoods in close quarters with each other, to create a closed ecosystem that promotes the growth of all organisms. In the case of the Hexafarm, the central cage is designed for salt water fish such as Milk Fish or Grouper, while the outter cage has a layer of seaweed growing on top, with baskets just below.
The oysters feed on fish byproduct, while the seaweed increases oxygen in the water to promote fish health. The outter cages can be used as extra space for fish species with lower stocking density like grouper, or for lobster to live on the bottom. This is the only fish cage that produces 4+ kinds of products.
Double Up your Fish Farm as a Seastead. The Hexafarm can include specially designed floating rooms, between 6 and 12 units can be integrated into the structure. Since Hexafarms are fully walkable and can interconnect, this can be used a coastal-water seasteading village or resort. The rooms are designed for strong winds, and include solar-electric and small septic tanks.
Hexafarms can be shipped in small modular parts, and fitted together easily on site. If you currently have an aquaculture operation or want to begin one, the ease of assembly and increased output and fish health will make the Hexafarm an excellent addition to your operation.
For those not directly running an aquaculture operation themselves, you have the option to invest in Hexafarms and other floating assets via Stead Tokens. This investment vehicle allows the funding and paying off of various floating assets including seasteads, fishing boats, and aquaculture farms.
The Hexafarm is made from High Density Polyethelene (HDPE) which will last about 50 years in salt water. The walkways are customizable for each owner, as are the desired aquacultural outputs of the Hexafarm.
The Hexafarm will decrease the amount of waste in the water through shellfish filter feeding, and will increase the concentration of oxygen from seaweed production, leading to healthier fish.
While Shellfish reduce the waste in the water, Lobster and Siganids in the outter net will feed on bio-fouling organisms that often can only be removed by cleaning. This reduces the necessary labor to keep the system clean.
Thanks to the elimination of butt-welding, our system can be assembled on site without the need for specialized labor. A simple system of bolts and flanges makes the process quick and easy, and even allows the system to be partly assembled in the water.
